The Khen Dance originates in a northeast provice of Camboida along the border with
Lao
s.
It is a dance that was traditionally performed when Cambodians gathered to celebrate the New Year. Like many Cambodian folk dances, the Khen dance has a courtship theme. Many of the young men in this part of the country play a mouth organ called the Khen, which is made of strips of bamboo and decorated with flowers. The dance demonstrates how men would play music in the open area of villages to attract young women passing by.
