Cambodian New Years is celebrated by Cambodians across the world April 13th – April 15th. This holiday includes gathering at the Buddhist Temple for prayers and food, as well as classical dances, music and traditional games. The Angkor Dance troupe performed the Blessing Dance and Swva Pol at the Lowell celebration which took place at the Lowell Community Charter Public School.

The blessing dance was first performed in Cambodia to rid the royal palace of evil spirits and bless the royal kingdom. Today it iperformed to bless events and welcome honored guests. During the performance dancers sprinkle flowers petals towards the audience. This is done to bring peace, prosperity, and good health in accordance in accordance with Cambodian custom.
